Pearls and fashion… Throughout history, pearl jewelry has been a symbol of status and wealth. However, in the 90s of the twentieth century, for many, pearls got out of favor.  Then, people start thinking that pearl jewelry  became outdated and boring.   It was a destiny of old ladies who did not follow the latest jewelry trends. In short, pearl jewelry has become something that lacked the originality, novelty and spirit.  People even thought that it was giving a dull and tedious look to a woman wearing it.

Actually, in those days, people associated pearl jewelry with a plain strand of round white pearls.  They dubbed such pearl jewelry a “grandmother’s pearl necklace”. Or, it was an assortment of small, crooked, often dyed and brightly colored, Chinese pearls.  These pearls flooded the market twenty or thirty years ago.

No wonder, it has taken years before the situation has changed.  And pearl jewelry has got its rightful place in a wardrobe of a modern stylish woman.  Actually, it has become an indispensable part of it. Why do we think of pearls and fashion as of something unique and indispensable?

On the one hand, we always watch the cycles in fashion.  As a matter of fact, fashion repeats itself in a certain amount of years, evolving on a new level.

Why pearls have become so popular

There is an important factor that has helped pearl jewelry to regain its popularity.  Today, we enjoy a incredible diversity of pearls in the market. First, pearls may be of different type.  We have saltwater pearls, like, akoya pearls, Tahitian pearls, South sea pearls.  At the same time, we have freshwater pearls.  Moreover, pearls color is not limited to white.  At present,  pearls may have nearly any color! Moreover, some pearls are distinguished by the so-called rainbow effect.  Rainbow effect is a play of different colors.  It makes pearls possessing it searched for, exotic and unique.

Pearls may be very small, about or even less than 2 mm.  We call such tiny pearls “seed pearls”.  On the other hand, pearls may be  very large, up to 30-40 mm! Their shapes surprise us as well .  Round pearls rival with baroque ones.  The latter may resemble petals and flower blossoms, stars or even whimsical creatures. Some varieties of pearls may have a textured surface.  This creates an additional luster and glow making pearls the small orbs of light!

This abundance and diversity of pearls has not existed before.  And it gives to the pearl jewelry designers new fantastic opportunities.  They may create exceptional designer pearl jewelry, from very classic to bold and edgy.  It is jewelry for any taste, any style, any budget.

As well, the designs created by the icons of style like Coco Chanel are in vogue today. People are searching for clothing and accessories branded “Chanel”. Don’t forget that Coco Chanel has made pearls an essential accessory of an elegant and classy outfit. For me, it is hard to imagine Coco Chanel without wearing her stunning pearl jewelry.  Sometimes, she was wearing pearls up to 5-6 ropes of pearls at a time!
